Distress_thermometer.pngPsychological distress is common in people with cancer, with 40% of all UK patients experiencing anxiety or depressionduring their cancer journey.scores against the diagnostic cut-off score for ‘caseness’. (See Validating the Distress Thermometer as a tool to screen for psychological distress in the UK.) The Distress Thermometer, a single item  scale with a symptom checklist, potentially  fits the criteria. Initially developed by the  National Comprehensive Cancer Network  (NCCN) and validated in the USA,  Australia, Japan and southern Europe,  but not the UK.
